The Long Journey Back

He saw her tears.
He felt her pain.
He wanted to dry her eyes, help her to heal, make her smile.

Before long, he began to help, in any way he could.
Before long, he saw his gift.
Before long, he began to love, care and fight for others.

After long, he had loved, cared and fought for so many, he had lost his way… lost touch with himself.
Though he was born a fighter, and knew well how to fight for himself and for others, and though he was good at it…
After long, he had forgotten how to love and care for himself.

Before long, in agony, he began to question his existence.
Before long, he realized that he had taken on the role of helping to heal others for far too long, not realizing the personal toll, not realizing the cost.
Before long, he realized that he needed to work on himself, for the good of them whom he loved, for the good of himself.

After long, he learned again, how to love and care for himself;
And in doing so, before long, began the journey back to wholeness.
Before long, he included himself in the number of those who needed his love, who needed his care.
Before long, he began to heal.

Where is “back?”
He does not know.
Only God knows.

Perhaps it is forward.
Perhaps it is back, back to his place of origin.
But for his new journey, he has an old, familiar means…

For he realizes, that he, is as important a recipient of his love and care, as any.
