Dealing with the Blockade…

Or “writer’s block” as it’s called. First, for those of you who have been following my blog since I first published it last Fall (2014), I am sorry I haven’t written anything in a while. Writer’s block is the bane of any writer’s existence, and as anyone who writes for a living might tell you, when it hits, it can really make you feel useless. In fact, I’ve had it so bad recently, I briefly flirted with the idea of updating my résumé for a possible return to a workforce…

Mayweather vs Pacquiao: May 2nd Super Fight!!!

Okay, So those of you who know me well might detect the slight hint of sarcasm in the title of this post.  But those of you who don’t know me personally might ask, “What’s so sarcastic about the title?”  Okay, I’ll answer that for you… In my opinion, the only things “super” about the forthcoming showdown between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his opponent, Manny Pacquiao, are the ticket prices, the unprecedented PPV cost and of course, the hype.  But before I breakdown why this “super fight” won’t be all that super,…

Winning Isn’t Everything

Happy Monday! So, we’ve all heard the phrase that is the title of this post a thousand times or more: “Winning isn’t everything;” and in most of those cases, it seems it’s the guy who lost that utters those words.  Well, I won’t hold you in suspense by making you think the opposite is the case here.  I am not a winner who somehow quickly grew bored of a recent victory.  No. This post is by and about a guy who endured a humiliating tournament defeat this past weekend in…

Have You Heard The News?

Not sure if you heard…but, last week From Fear To Faith: A Survivor’s Story made it to #18 on Amazon’s Hot 100 List for Inspirational e-books!!! That’s awesome news, but I want to explain my REAL GOAL. Just last night, my wife and I received a call from a dear friend whose family member has been struggling in their battle with the “c” word. They asked if I could share details of my experience and what I did to help my health care providers “help me” to overcome it. That…

Reintroducing… Matt D. Talford: Author and Motivational Speaker!!!

Dear Readers: Hello again! I’m sure some of you have wondered “where has Matt been and why hasn’t he blogged in a while?” Well, as most of you may recall, I left Corporate America in October of 2013 to pursue a career as a full-time author; and as those of you who were faithfully following the progress of the “From Fear to Faith: A Survivor’s Story” project are probably aware of, our initial intent was to release the book last November. As is often the case with first-release projects, we…

The Author Wants to Know…

Hello Again! I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted. I’ve been quite busy these days working to bring this publishing project to a finish and teaching tennis. At any rate, I have a question for all you fans of good literature: As we draw closer to the end of 2014, I’d like to know, what books have you read or are still reading this year? I’ll start by sharing mine (and not that it matters much, but I’ve used ‘F’ for Fiction and ‘NF’ for Non-fiction). * Lone…

Book Update

Happy October! Some of you are aware that one year ago this month, I said goodbye to a 20-year career in Corporate America to pursue a new career as a writer. It was a career that began in 1993 after serving a three-year commitment in the US Army Medical Corps. During those 20 years in Corporate America, I worked in healthcare as an emergency room nurse tech (4 years), an IT services contractor (2 years) and both as a Microsoft technical support engineer and technical account manager (14 years). In…
