My #WCW is @cocochanel523! She was diagnosed with “the c word” in a rare location on the flat bone on her forehead. She was first diagnosed at the age five, and it came back at the age of nine. Due to her chemo treatments, she says, she now has dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). DCM is a condition in which the heart’s ability to pump blood is decreased because the heart’s main pumping chamber, the left ventricle, is enlarged and weakened. When she was five, she was unable to fully understand what was occurring, but at the age nine, she was aware of what was going on, afraid, and at times didn’t understand why it was happening to her. Although she was young and scared, her mother instilled a strong faith in her.
According to Courtney, during that difficult period in her life, she had a small still voice that spoke to her heart and told her she was going to be okay, and that God was going to bring her through this like He did before. She would like others to know, that are going through any trial in their life, that you have to have the mentality that you are going to beat this [trial]. You can’t have a sense of defeat, you have to have the mentality that you will beat it! Her mantra is that “if God brings you to it, he’ll bring you through it.” Her biggest inspiration is her mother because she kept her faith throughout this time in her life. She is the strongest person she knows. “I use everything that I have been through as a testimony that if I can beat cancer I can do anything!”
Courtney, I totally agree!!
